The Pro Bono Work to Empower and Represent (POWER) Act will host a virtual event on May 20 at 4:00 PM Eastern Time, according to an announcement on Apr. 28. The program aims to support survivors of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking by promoting pro bono legal services.
The POWER Act events are described as important opportunities for mobilizing pro bono attorneys, legal service providers, and community organizations. Organizers say these events can inspire attorneys interested in volunteering their services and help build connections among groups working to close the justice gap for survivors.
Since the initial passage of the POWER Act, district court efforts have led to pro bono legal summits across the United States. In fiscal year 2022 alone, organizers report that more than eighty percent of district courts sponsored or co-sponsored POWER Act events that reached over six thousand people.
This year’s virtual program will feature one speaker and is open to participants from sixty-five court units nationwide. A recording of the event will be made available to co-sponsoring courts around May 27.
Registration is required for participation in the virtual event. Once registered, attendees will receive a link for access approximately two days before the program.
