Attorney General Tim Griffin has announced that Arkansas State University (ASU) is joining the One Pill Can Kill initiative, a program designed to educate college students about the risks associated with fentanyl use. The announcement was made alongside ASU Chancellor Todd Shields at a press conference held on campus.

“Today I joined Arkansas State University Chancellor Todd Shields to announce the kickoff of the One Pill Can Kill initiative at Arkansas State. This is the sixth campus in Arkansas that has joined the initiative. ASU’s involvement will ensure that college students in Northeast Arkansas learn about the dangers of fentanyl and what they can do to help stop its deadly impact on our young people,” said Griffin.

Following the press conference, ASU students participated in training sessions where they learned how to recognize signs of opioid overdose, administer naloxone, and use testing strips to detect fentanyl contamination in medications or beverages.

Chancellor Shields stated, “At Arkansas State University, the health and safety of our Red Wolves always come first. That’s why we are proud to partner with Attorney General Tim Griffin to raise awareness about the dangers of fentanyl. The One Pill Can Kill campaign brings that message directly to our campus community. Together, we are empowering students with the knowledge to make safe choices and protect one another.”

The One Pill Can Kill initiative uses funds from opioid settlements managed by the Office of the Attorney General for Arkansas. The campaign began in October 2024 at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville and plans further expansion across other state college campuses during this academic year. More information about the program can be found at www.arkansasag.gov/OnePillCanKill.

Tim Griffin has served as Attorney General since January 2023 after previously holding positions including Lieutenant Governor and U.S. Representative for Arkansas’s Second Congressional District. He continues his service as an officer in the Arkansas Army National Guard.
